How to Collect Seeds Pelargonium Geranium

Pelargonium seeds will fly away in the wind if you wait too long to remove them from the plants.

Cut the seedheads from the plants as they begin to dry and complete the drying process indoors.

Scented geranium seed that is left on the plants will often sprout on its own and provide you with volunteers.

How to Care for Indoor Geraniums

These tender perennial geraniums are well suited to pot culture. They enjoy having their roots a little crowded.

When growing geraniums indoors, give them warmth, direct sunlight and fast draining soil. Like most herbs, they prefer to be kept on the dry side and slightly underfed. Too much fertilizer will reduce their fragrance.

Scented Pelargonium Uses

The plant is used in the making of perfumes. The dried leaves can be used in sachets and potpourri.

Graveolens Pelargonium (rose scented) is used in aromatherapy for facial steams due to its anti-aging effect on the skin.

The essential oil is also reputed to be mildly sedative and to lift low spirits.

The fresh leaves of geraniums (scented) can be chopped and added to fruit salads or tea cakes. They can be simmered in sweet syrup or milk to extract their flavors.

The fresh or dried leaves can be used to make flavorful herbal teas.
